UPCOMING EVENTS Watch for new events to be posted! MORE ABOUT SWCR EVENTS This page introduces all our collie adopters and future adopters to other fun opportunities for their collie. Some opportunities can lead your collie and your family to an American Working Collie Association (AWCA) Versatile Collie certification. Some opportunities help SWCR promote the adoption of future rescued collies. Often, these opportunities cross over, and one adventure leads to another. The events featured here are ones we know our collies, rescue and home dogs, participate in.
Please join us in exploring the regional canine events in your area. Along the way, you will find that adopting one of our collies can be a lot of family fun for the collies, their home dog companions and their human families! Collies are not only good home companions, but they can also be successful in other venues, such as Agility, Backpacking, Carting, Herding, Obedience, Public Relations (which includes participation in Highland Games and Collie Rescue Fund-raising events), Therapy, and Rescue. Get your American Kennel Club (AKC) unregistered purebred collie an Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP) Number so your family and your collie can work in AKC sponsored events. By the way, the AKC ILP number you obtained for your rescued collie qualifies the collie to participate in AKC Herding events and trials. Here is the link for AKC ILP information. Have your collie qualify for a Canine Good Citizen [CGC] certification. Here is the link for CGC information. Become a member of the American Working Collie Association and work your adopted collie to an AWCA "Versatile Collie" certification or more. That AKC CGC just gave your collie one point out of the required five towards the AWCA VC title. Now, off with your collie to Herding, Obedience, Assistance Work, Canine Sports, or Public Relations (which includes Rescue Fundraising). Here is the link to the AWCA.
